Angela Burgess began teaching French in 2000 and has taught every level from beginners to Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate. Her students have received college credit as a result of her instruction. She teaches the basics of vocabulary and grammar, as well as the intricacies and depth of French history and literature, oral and written communication, and comprehension and analysis of oral and written authentic resources.
Michael Forth is a long-time upper-level and AP math teacher and tutor; 85% of his students scored a 5 (the highest score possible) on the AP exam. Michael attacks the "why" behind math because "without the why, you'll never understand the how." He believes that math is a dynamic and rich subject matter that, when properly understood, can capture the imagination of even the most ardent mathematical cynics.
BethAnn Schacht is a Boston psychotherapist who earned a Masters in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University and has been in private practice since 2001. She specializes in mind/body wellness, life transitions, work/life balance and mood disorders. Her post-graduate trainings include mind/body work at the Kripalu Center, Life Coach training through Coach University, and the UMass Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program. BethAnn's webinars help students discover their strengths and maximize their potential.
Dr. Rebecca Deurlein has dedicated her life to education. She is a long-time English teacher, a published author, and a national speaker on how to help teens achieve success. Dr. D works with parents to help them form alliances with teachers and incorporate tools for success both at home and at school. She has been featured as a parenting expert in Psychology Today and Huffington Post Parents.
Jeff Deurlein is a corporate executive with 30 years' experience leading small and large companies across the nation. He has a BS in electrical engineering and an MBA from Virginia Tech. Having hired hundreds of employees, he knows what businesses want and how students can prepare for life in the professional world through eye-catching resumes and strong interview skills.
Matthew Thompson has taught all levels of English, AP, and IB, for 15 years and his students have a 99% pass rate on IB exams. He has earned numerous honors, including Star Teacher, Teacher of the Year and recognitions of excellence. He has a BA in English and Philosophy, an MA and a Specialist degree in Teaching and Curriculum.
Leslie Lopez is a leader in her field with 20+ years' teaching experience and a specialist degree in education. Her dual background in language arts and special education equips her to help all types of learners improve their reading and writing skills. She has earned commendations for her ability to improve students’ writing through an integrated approach and for helping even reluctant learners comprehend and analyze complex text.
Dr. Janet White has a long career in teaching secondary and college mathematics. With BA, MEd, and PhD degrees in Mathematics Education, she looks for ways to engage her students in mathematics and leads new mathematics teachers on their own journeys. Having taught a wide variety of mathematics from algebra to calculus, linear algebra, and statistics, Janet has also been an AP Reader for 13 years scoring exams for AP Calculus and AP Statistics.
In her 24 years in education, Lisa Robinson has taught Spanish Levels 1-4 as well as IB Spanish HL, AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature. She has served as a Reader for the College Board for AP Spanish Language and spent 6 summers teaching Latin American Studies at the Concordia Language Villages in Bemidji Minnesota. Lisa has extensive experience in tutoring students at all levels of Spanish and specializes in analyzing student performance and identifying areas for improvement.
Sherry Alvarado is currently a 9th Grade Biology teacher in the Sugar Land, TX area. She graduated from Houston Baptist University with a B.S. in Composite Science 8-12. While at HBU she studied subjects ranging from astronomy, environmental science, earth science, biology, and chemistry. Sherry not only teaches but has worked as a mentor for kids and teens since the age of 16.
Dr. John Lindsell has taught as a Visiting Faculty Member at Harvard University for 30 years. He is a graduate of Harvard where he earned his doctorate in education. Having served as a high school teacher, Head of School, and professor at both Kennesaw State in Georgia and Harvard, Dr. John is in a unique position to teach students exactly what to expect in college.
